Most of us who live in an urban or suburban environment really only consider ourselves the hunters. We choose if we want to eat animal protein and, if so, which varieties. Then, one day, we get out of our comfort zone and take an adventure; to the ocean, to the Forrest, to the mountains, wherever it may be.
When we leave our protected domestic environment, we make ourselves vulnerable. Vulnerable to becoming the hunted. Beers, Sharks, snakes, the list goes on and on of those predators that may want to take a bite of us. For me, it is the ocean that calls. I take a long hot run by the beach, then cool down and relax into the ocean.
Eyes closed, I lean my head back into the water to mute my hearing. In a meditative state, I set my soul free. Releasing myself from the earthly concerns that are renting space in my head. There are things that can eat me, for sure! I somehow put this mostly out of my mind and relax, but I am indeed prey. For a hungry shark, I could be breakfast.
The human species rarely views life this way, however, if we consider it more often, maybe we would savor our food choices a bit more.
Do any of our vegetarians chose to be vegetarian because, in your deep beliefs, you think that the animal world will take mercy upon you in return and you won’t become their prey? Just curious! Please share.
