The best gift you can give, teach them how to cook. It goes back to the bible. You don’t just give a fish, you teach to fish. Well, this is especially true with children. When we cook with confidence and skill, we crave the food that WE make. We can balance our flavors and select our ingredients. We know what we put into the food, so we feel good about putting it into our bodies. Granted, dining out and picking up prepared foods can be so luxurious at times. It provides us all with a much needed break. But that should not be the norm. After all, we can’t make healthy conscientious choices when we are not aware and in control of what ingredients make up theses “choices”.
Kids who learn to cook become adults who know how to cook. We share meals with friends and family. Explore cultures through exotic ingredients. We can then travel through our palettes anywhere we want through a bite of beautifully prepared food.
We bond, remember, and create through food. It really is one of the greatest gifts we can give and receive.
